Business Wisdom: Growing Wiser

“Be not afraid of growing slowly, be afraid only of standing still”.

This Chinese proverb speaks to Greater China’s mission in more ways than one. Of course we have big goals in mind for the growth of our company, just as most businesses do. In our quest to be the best at what we do, we understand the time and hard work it takes.

Greater China’s CEO and Founder, Ben Zhang, knows this better than most. In 2007, twelve years after starting the company, Ben wasn’t seeing the company go in the direction he envisioned, so instead of accepting defeat, he decided to do something about it.

“I felt like the company had reached a plateau. So, I thought it was time to go back to school to learn more ‘ingredients’, then come back and apply those things to move the company to a higher level.”

Because Ben couldn’t take time off from the company, he took his Executive MBA program through Cornell University. Ben finished the program, but even after all that hard work, it still wasn’t enough for him.

“I still felt like I was missing something,” he said.

Ben applied and got into a program at the Harvard business school called Owner President Management. Ben finished the three-year program, and today he is extremely grateful for the education he received.

“Today I try and apply things I learned to my business. Now we’re turning around and growing again, it’s an exciting time.”

For Ben, standing still isn’t an option, and all his schooling is proof of the dedication and passion he has for Greater China.

Let us all look to Ben as an example of how important it is to be proactive in achieving our goals and to never stand still! What can Greater China do to help your business move forward?
