2014 Starbucks Annual Ethical Sourcing Supplier Summit

Jim Zhang, Greater China’s Quality Control Manager (China) was honored to attend a “Green Community Service Summit” in Shenzhen on May 19th. This summit is sponsored by Starbucks and is designed to support, provide training and educate suppliers on many issues regarding ethical and appropriate practices. These include child care for workers, raising awareness about the importance of environmental protection among children and assisting in the development of the local community. Attached photos show workers teaching children to recognize the traffic signs at Jueqi Chengxin Experimental School in Shenzhen’s Baoan District. To raise environmental awareness, Children are taught to recognize varies of trees at Xinan park. Greater China is happy to take part in these informative events.

The Starbucks summit runs two days and is attended by approximately 150 Starbucks suppliers, many of them from the USA. The summit includes training on Starbucks business practices, global sourcing standards, Starbucks branding and global responsibility issues as discussed above with emphasis on Community involvement and purposeful parenting.
