California Proposition 65 Statement

California Proposition 65 Statement

Proposition 65 is a California law that has been in effect since 1986 to promote clean drinking water and keep toxic substances that cause cancer and birth defects out of consumer products. Proposition 65's formal title is "The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986." It is administered by Cal/EPA's Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA).

The law requires that anyone at reasonable risk of exposure be informed when substances classified as toxins are present. Since enactment, it has been the reason for the addition of notices of specific contents to consumer product labels. Along with the added label requirements, an official list of implicated substances is maintained and made publicly available.  For most listed Proposition 65 chemicals, OEHHA has determined "safe" levels of exposure.

Greater China is committed to providing high quality, safe products to all clients.  Where there is potential chemical risk Greater China requires manufacturers to purchase raw materials that meet or exceed Proposition 65 standards. In addition, Greater China offers independent and certified testing services at additional cost to provide certified compliance with all federal and state requirements.  The preponderance of testing generally has focused on reducing or eliminating lead content in products as this continues to be the foremost concern of clients and the centerpiece of the Proposition 65 litigation in California.

As it is neither practical nor cost effective to test every product we deliver for the over 750 Proposition 65 chemicals, you may have concerns about compliance with Proposition 65.  If this is the case, we suggest including a product label on product that may deliver within California to include the following warning:

WARNING: This product may contain chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm.

Greater China is committed to providing value and satisfaction in all our products. If you have questions about product safety or concerns regarding Proposition 65 requirements please feel free to contact your Greater China Account Executive for help.
